smoky eyes

so just got home from casey q's who has done a stunning job making me over with her massive store of make up. it was quite a treat to get her expertise on my make up and i was well impressed with what she managed to do with my eyes - wow didn't know how dramatically differing i could look with a bit of eyeshadow here and highlighter there!

i remember wearing make up far more frequently before i started coming to university when i decided that i just couldn't be bothered and she reminded me that i can actually look pretty good, if i take some time over all that stuff. its amazing how quickly my standards drop, now putting on a bit of a mascara is effort! Hmmm...think i am gonna take casey's tips and try and do more with my face or the "human palette", as casey likes to call it!

had such a great bank holiday saturday was lush mate, lush. spent what felt like hours, strumming my sisters gorge guitar, that wood is just such a great shell for the vibrations, sounds so much nicer than my beginners guitar. my clumsy chords even sound good on it - also did a spot of window shopping and made some jewellery at bamba beads on the gloucester road, this great store where you can have a class in making jewellery and make stuff they sell in the stores for a tenth of the price - exciting hey! So proud of my little creations, two necklaces, a bracelet and some earrings! Very cool. Right bed calls, just enjoyed a lovely class of Chilean vino (in prep for my possible elective in the long and thin sud american delight of a country and a cheeky caramel slice! my kinda saturday night!

Fresh beginnings Day 29

So it is the 1st September 2009, day 29 since I arrived in NZ. I have moved into a home with Mel and Bev, daughter and mother, co-landlords and girls that are becoming great friends. They have welcomed me, oozed generosity and just generally been amazing. I was put in touch with them through a girl called Clare, who worked here at the hospital 2 years ago and lived with them. The radical part is (yes, radical is a word I realised today I have started using - Mel uses it in a shortened version 'rad') that Clare and her husband have just moved to KwaZulu Natal, South Africa to work there. When she emailed me and Mel each other's details all the way from SA, Mel was in Thailand with work and I was in Christchurch. The previous week Mel had put an advert in a local cafe for the room. Initially she had specified she was looking for a 'Christian' housemate and then decided to cross it out despite her possible real hopes for a fellow crispy for her and Bev to live with. In

summer holidays

so today i have completely flaked out - its quite unbelievable but after all my written exams yesterday i just really needed to - feeling a bit guilty about lack of work but i am sure tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day will make up for that. what was most exciting is that i booked a short holiday for late june, after my job shadowing with my good friend liz here .i cannot actually believe we will be reading books (of a non-medical variety), lazing on beaches, cycling, enjoying some good wine and generally relaxing, with no agenda - i only wish it was for more than 3 night! ha ha.... i can't believe i managed to complain at the end of that! i know, i know i have nothing to complain about! am in fact feeling oh so very thankful at the mo - its a good feeling!
