Vamos a la Chile!

Wooo hoooo!

Very excited at the moment as I've just yesterday in fact booked a flight to Chile, el loco geographica as people call it, meaning a crazy geography mainly due to its unique shape and diverse geography. Anyways I am leaving on August 24th for just over 5 weeks of fun and frolics, practicing medicine whilst exploring the fabulous country and enjoying its varied delights at the weekends.

The even more exciting thing about the whole trip is that I will be staying with a vineyard family from the vineyard in santiago - i think I am almost more excited about this part of the trip. Having got to know Bristol Vineyard and now the vineyard in Ukraine, learning more of the South American Vineyard in Chile will be an amazing experience - i cannot wait.

In an hour to prepare I am off to a local Chilean-run cafe la ruca on the gloucester road, a favourite haunt of mine, where tonight I will endeavour to improve my espanol over coffee and conversation with strangers who may well become friends. My chilean friend Jocelyn will hopefully be there so I will hopefully just chat with her! Exciting times, bring it on I say!

Fresh beginnings Day 29

So it is the 1st September 2009, day 29 since I arrived in NZ. I have moved into a home with Mel and Bev, daughter and mother, co-landlords and girls that are becoming great friends. They have welcomed me, oozed generosity and just generally been amazing. I was put in touch with them through a girl called Clare, who worked here at the hospital 2 years ago and lived with them. The radical part is (yes, radical is a word I realised today I have started using - Mel uses it in a shortened version 'rad') that Clare and her husband have just moved to KwaZulu Natal, South Africa to work there. When she emailed me and Mel each other's details all the way from SA, Mel was in Thailand with work and I was in Christchurch. The previous week Mel had put an advert in a local cafe for the room. Initially she had specified she was looking for a 'Christian' housemate and then decided to cross it out despite her possible real hopes for a fellow crispy for her and Bev to live with. In

summer holidays

so today i have completely flaked out - its quite unbelievable but after all my written exams yesterday i just really needed to - feeling a bit guilty about lack of work but i am sure tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day will make up for that. what was most exciting is that i booked a short holiday for late june, after my job shadowing with my good friend liz here .i cannot actually believe we will be reading books (of a non-medical variety), lazing on beaches, cycling, enjoying some good wine and generally relaxing, with no agenda - i only wish it was for more than 3 night! ha ha.... i can't believe i managed to complain at the end of that! i know, i know i have nothing to complain about! am in fact feeling oh so very thankful at the mo - its a good feeling!
