songs i am enjoying right now....



After playing his Room for squares for too many nights over the past few years i finally invested in his 2007 release Continuum and have not regretted. Never owned Heavier Things or any of his live stuff but had a listen. This new album is quite a change from his debut but I am enjoying the lyrics and the soulful voice as well his excellent guitar skills. Totally up my street and highly recommend.





An album I think I would like to savour soon is In Our Nature by Jose Gonzalez, and Argentinian Swede with a voice from heaven and guitar skills that our like none i have ever heard or will ever hear again; he truly has a great gift. His first album Veneer sky-rocketed, selling in platinum numbers in over 15 countries and he was made famous by the sony advert which used his music.
If you like Nick Drake's stuff you will like this. And if not and you simply want to hear music that goes back to basics you'll enjoy listening to the bare bones of Jose's unplugged talent.
And I can make you jealous by letting you know that I got to see him at the Big Chill Festival in August 2006 - okay so there were hundreds of us all appreciating his mastery on a green field in herefordshire, but he totally made eye-contact with me totally! ooh and yes the new hair (check it out on some live youtubes of him) is very lovely!
So go listen - or come find me and i will lend you Veneer!

Fresh beginnings Day 29

So it is the 1st September 2009, day 29 since I arrived in NZ. I have moved into a home with Mel and Bev, daughter and mother, co-landlords and girls that are becoming great friends. They have welcomed me, oozed generosity and just generally been amazing. I was put in touch with them through a girl called Clare, who worked here at the hospital 2 years ago and lived with them. The radical part is (yes, radical is a word I realised today I have started using - Mel uses it in a shortened version 'rad') that Clare and her husband have just moved to KwaZulu Natal, South Africa to work there. When she emailed me and Mel each other's details all the way from SA, Mel was in Thailand with work and I was in Christchurch. The previous week Mel had put an advert in a local cafe for the room. Initially she had specified she was looking for a 'Christian' housemate and then decided to cross it out despite her possible real hopes for a fellow crispy for her and Bev to live with. In

summer holidays

so today i have completely flaked out - its quite unbelievable but after all my written exams yesterday i just really needed to - feeling a bit guilty about lack of work but i am sure tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day will make up for that. what was most exciting is that i booked a short holiday for late june, after my job shadowing with my good friend liz here .i cannot actually believe we will be reading books (of a non-medical variety), lazing on beaches, cycling, enjoying some good wine and generally relaxing, with no agenda - i only wish it was for more than 3 night! ha ha.... i can't believe i managed to complain at the end of that! i know, i know i have nothing to complain about! am in fact feeling oh so very thankful at the mo - its a good feeling!
